Lampard still set to leave Manchester City in January

Ex England midfielder is due to join up with New York City, but could yet extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium

Frank Lampard insists he is still set to leave Manchester City when his loan deal ends in January.

The former England international says there has been no change to his contract with the Premier League champions, despite speculation that he will extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium.

The 36-year-old’s future has been the subject of intense debate, following his outstanding performances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

But he is refusing to look beyond his current six-month deal, after which he is due to join up with New York City for the start of the MLS season.

“I am contracted here until January,” said Lampard. “I am enjoying every minute of training at this level and being able to get game time. That is as far as it goes at the moment.”

Lampard’s impressive form for City has led to suggestions that he could delay his move to America.

He has scored four goals in his last five appearances – including the crucial equaliser against Chelsea last month.

Pellegrini remains open to the possibility of keeping hold of him beyond the New Year – but Lampard says his current agreement still stands.

“Speculation has come because of a couple of goals,” he said. “But at the moment there is nothing to be said.”

New York City do not kick off their inaugural campaign until March next year.

It is possible that Lampard could continue playing for parent club City until closer to that date.
